Follow the Line
January 12 – March 2

Press Release

Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Follow the Line, new wall sculptures and works on paper by Emi Ozawa. She created this body of work at the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program from 2016 to 2017. Several of her pieces are based on Amidakuji, a Japanese game of chance learned by every school-aged child. If you follow the line, you find the winner.

While working in her large studio in Roswell, Ozawa chose to increase the scale of her work. Her painted wood wall sculptures explore color, line, volume, geometry, and shadow. Her playful yet purposeful compositions change when the viewer moves around the work. Carefully crafted and finished, the sculptures are made of either mahogany or poplar, painted with acrylic.

This exhibition also includes works on paper. Central to Ozawa’s studio practice is an elaborate model-making process. She chose to refine these models and present them as limited editions. They show how she can generate form and structure with paper.
