Press Release
Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present The Art of ReUse, an in-depth exploration into reuse and sustainability through art, fashion, and design. The Art of ReUse encompasses a gallery exhibition, a pop up boutique, a runway fashion show followed by a one-evening-only designer sale, and a community programming day. Working with textiles, wearable art, jewelry, and mixed media, The Art of ReUse examines how previously used materials can be repurposed and reimagined.
The exhibition includes works by Parron Allen, Ilse Bolle, Susanna Carlisle, Bruce Davis, Nika Feldman, Francesca Tobias (Desert Flower Bridal), Shawn Holtaway Keller (Scattered Light Stitchery), Samantha Manion-Chavez, Kailani Mayer (Maman Atelier), Simona Monnet (Chula Punk), Alfredo Quiroz, and Tschaner Sefas (31 and 13). This exhibition highlights inventive approaches transforming found and previously owned materials into new works of art and design.
In the The Art of ReUse pop up boutique, visitors can purchase wearables by designers such as 31 and 13, Parron Allen, CLED, Maman Atelier, Samantha Manion-Chavez, Quinton Anderson, Alfredo Quiroz, Salt Grass Jewelry, Scattered Light Stitchery, Alex Vigil, and Yaudi.
On January 24, visitors are invited to see cutting-edge fashion by leading local and regional designers in a 90-minute runway event followed by a sale. Designers include 31 and 13, Desert Flower Bridal, MadVan Design, Alfredo Quiroz, Cinta Sinta, The Son of Picasso, and Alex Vigil. Save the dates! Tickets will be available in December.
Community engagement is central to The Art of ReUse. On January 31, participants are invited to attend workshops and a panel discussion. Workshop topics include Mending and Darning and Upcycling 101: Deconstruction. The panel discussion, C2: Creatives in Conversation: Sustainable Fashion, moderated by guest curator Jakia Fuller, brings together four local designers to discuss sustainable practices. Visitors can attend the entire program or drop in for individual events. A Mending and Repair Resource Guide listing local businesses, designers, and artisans who offer repair and mending services will be available for attendees.
