Press Release

Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Wend, a selection of new artworks by multimedia artist Mick Burson. Made while traveling, Wend serves as a visual record of Burson’s nomadic life style.  “Things were made in the kitchen, things were made in the bedroom, things were made on the side of the road, things dried in the bathroom, things dried on access ramps, things were made standing up, things were made sitting down, things were made out of sadness, things were made out of joy, things were made thousands of miles away, things were made around the corner, things were made here before you arrived, some things didn’t make it, things are stuck with no tracking number. Things were always made, things were always made.”

Wend consists of sculptures, drawings, paintings, and photographs created in many countries and states over the past six months using materials and inspirations that the artist found along the way. Burson created where he could when he could in response to each place. In the artists’s words, “The work reflects the performance of moving, unpacking and re-packing, finding familiars as an act of grounding, and a continued life-long performance of wandering around while appearing to have a destination.”

The exhibition will also include a station with everything necessary to write a letter—a place to sit, a stack of stamped envelopes, paper, writing utensils, and an outgoing mailbox that the artist will make.

Mick Burson has created public art murals all over the world, including a commissioned piece on the back exterior wall of the Richard Levy Gallery. He recently completed the largest mural in New Mexico to date on the exterior of Keshet Dance Center. Burson’s work is in the permanent collections of the Fidelity Investments Corporate Art Collection, the Navasota, TX Public Library,  and the University of New Mexico. Originally from Waco, TX, Burson received his MFA in studio art from the University of New Mexico earlier this year.
