Press Release

Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Trio, an exhibition of vibrant, abstract paintings by Justin N. Kim, Gregory Lomayesva, and Nicholas Valdés.  This exhibition introduces three new painters to the gallery’s program and celebrates abstraction, surface, color, and texture from three unique perspectives.

Justin N. Kim creates vibrant, abstract paintings as reflections on inter-connectedness. Drawing inspiration from systems with underlying structures, Kim offers a dynamic use of pattern repetition within each painting. Born in Incheon, South Korea, Kim now lives and works in Los Angeles. He has exhibited widely, including at the Torrance Art Museum in Torrance, CA, the Irvine Fine Arts Center in Irvine, CA, and the Bemis Center in Omaha, NE. Kim holds an MFA from California State University.

Gregory Lomayesva merges Pop Art influences with symbols and stories from his Hopi heritage in his large-scale paintings. Using vibrant color and gestural forms, Lomayesva reimagines Native American iconography, creating a visual language that bridges traditional cultural expressions with contemporary painting. Lomayesva is an artist, musician, and sound engineer based in Santa Fe. His work has been shown at venues such as J.Cacciola Gallery in New York, the Heard Museum in Phoenix, the Albuquerque Museum, and STAP Project in Florence, Italy.

Nicholas Valdés brings a distinctive mixed-media approach to abstraction by layering acrylic backgrounds with found objects, such as magazines, papers, photographs, and old paintings. Originally trained as a photographer, Valdés recently pivoted to painting as a way to move beyond the limits he encountered in photography. He has had solo shows in Nashville, Los Angeles, and Albuquerque, and is currently based in Albuquerque.

Trio celebrates three individual artistic voices and offers a fresh perspective on color, surface, texture, and a shared commitment to abstraction.
