Thomas Zitzwitz

Alors commença le bonheur
February 24 – March 31

Press Release

Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present the recent paintings of Thomas Zitzwitz in his American solo debut. Zitzwitz creates fields of color using interference, iridescent, and intensely colored pigments suspended in transparent acrylic gel. The results are luminous canvases in which colors and atmospheric effects change in relation to shifting light conditions and the movement of the viewer. The paintings evoke references ranging from “summer of love” psychedelia to the high modernism of Morris Louis. Encouraging this type of association in his numerous artist-books, Zitzwitz pairs reproductions of his paintings with bits of text and images culled from film stills and vintage photographs.

Thomas Zitzwitz was born in Sindelfingen, Germany in 1967. He is a Karl Schmidt-Routtluff and Fulbright Scholar. His work is represented by Galerie Fahnemann, Berlin, and Galerie de Zaal, Delft, and has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Italy, France, and the United States.

In addition to his exhibition in Albuquerque, Richard Levy Gallery will also feature new paintings by Zitzwitz in our program of national and international artists at the inaugural PULSE New York art fair.
