Press Release
Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Taking the Scenic Route, a group exhibition of contemporary painters making unconventional landscapes. Taking the Scenic Route is a journey through unconventional desert topographies during these unusual times.
Each artist interprets the land as a record of time and space in a unique way. Beau Carey and Jennifer Nehrbass use traditional landscape painting techniques but combine elements from different locations to create idealized fragmented landscapes. Sean Hudson, Daniel McCoy, Jr., and Thomas Frontini take a more fanciful approach. Hudson uses the uncommon technique of drawing with a router on painted wood panels to create luminescent paintings. McCoy’s thick black linework echos that of comic books. Frontini’s surreal landscapes are evocative of storybooks with pastel melting mountains. This is the first time the gallery will be showing work by Hudson, Nehrbass, and McCoy, Jr.
This exhibition is presented online from April 7–May 15 and by appointment May 4–15. Images for this exhibition can be viewed on ARTSY.net at www.levygallery.com.
