Press Release

Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Passages, a multimedia exhibition of digital and sculptural works by Susanna Carlisle + Bruce Hamilton. This exhibition brings attention to the rapidly changing climate.

Carlisle and Hamilton’s experimental video and sculpture illuminate environmental changes created by human impact. Highlights include videos inspired by the ways in which trees are threatened or displaced installed as a trio of monitors placed on the ground like fallen leaves. Four experimental videos from the series Message in a Bottle are presented within glass bottles and allude to fragility, ephemerality, transformation, and the predicament of invasive species. Past Present includes three video collages projected onto and through suspended metal slats and contemplates how many cultures have shared reverence for pollinators throughout time. Sculptures made of found objects and paper highlight the recent decline of birds and butterflies in the Southwest.

Susanna Carlisle and Bruce Hamilton are new media artists working with video, sculpture, architecture, and computer programming. They both earned degrees from University of Pennsylvania where they met 40 years ago and have been collaborating in life and practice ever since. Carlisle and Hamilton have exhibited at venues worldwide and live and work in Santa Fe.

We currently require proof of COVID-19 vaccination to view this exhibition in person, and gallery visitors must wear masks. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube: @levygallery @susannacarlisle #passages #susannacarlisle #brucehamilton #richardlevygallery
