Press Release
Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Setting a Pulse, a mixed media exhibition of experimental works by Shoshannah White. This exhibition combines scientific inquiry, artifacts from nature, and poetic interpretations via photography and varied media.
Through experimental practices, White reveals phenomena found in the extraordinary behavior of the natural world. This exhibition features positive and negative images of lightning that overlap wallpapered photograms of rich dust and metal filings activated by magnets. By juxtaposing lightning and magnetism, White highlights the electromagnetic forces at play in nature. Castings of cracked earth and cactus needles provide a record of the ongoing drought and resiliency of the Southwest. Rock dust, earth, flora, iron, magnets, electrostatic charge are the elemental components Shoshannah White is working with in Setting a Pulse.
Shoshannah White is an interdisciplinary artist. She is one of Southwest Contemporary’s 12 New Mexico Artists to Know Now. Her work is included in the Dancing Bear Collection of W.M. Hunt, the Judy Glickman Lauder Collection at the Portland Museum of Art, Dickinson College, and the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. White’s images have been featured in Photo District News, Newsweek, Psychology Today, Details, Der Speigel, and the Wall Street Journal.White is based in Portland, Maine, and Roswell, New Mexico.
