In the project room, the gallery presents Sallie ScheuflerWhen the sky turned to dust, an installation made up of intricate wheat weavings. The large-scale text piece explores the artist’s family connection to the Great Plains during and after the Dust Bowl, highlighting how settlers and capitalism have historically and currently contributed to climate change. Scheufler’s work has been exhibited at the Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, the Amarillo Museum of Art, Art League Houston, and the University of New Mexico Art Museum and reviewed in publications such as Southwest Contemporary, Glasstire, and the Weekly Alibi. Scheufler currently lives and works in Albuquerque, NM.
