Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present, SaltSpring, an exhibition of new paintings by Johnnie Winona Ross. Ross’s work draws inspiration from the landscapes of the southwest and the geological processes evident therein. Each painting comprises nearly a hundred layers of glazed pigment, all carefully scraped away with a straight-edged razor, then burnished with a potter’s stone leaving a surface that is both minimal and complex. The gallery will also feature the artist’s work at the Toronto International Art Fair, September 30 – October 4, 2004 and at Scope-Art London, October 15 – October 18, 2004

Accompanying SaltSpring the gallery presents Sage+Fire, an installation of sage-smoked earthenware by Carole Ross who is married to Johnnie Winona Ross. The couple lives and works in Taos, NM
