Biography and Information

Biography

Daniel McCoy, Jr. (b. 1975) began painting and drawing landscapes to convey the grandiose nature of the land. Although his works are very stylized, McCoy paints real places using a palette inspired by the colors of each location. The blocks of color are reminiscent of quilts and maps while his use of black line echos that of comic books.

Daniel McCoy’s paintings have been featured in public spaces, markets, galleries, and museums, including the New Mexican Museum of Art and the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts. His work has been published in various publications, including the Santa Fe Reporter and Southwest Contemporary. He is an enrolled member of the Muscogee Creek Nation and a descendant of the Citizen Band Potawatomi and currently lives and works in Santa Fe.

At the present, I am producing paintings solely for the effort of timekeeping. I paint so I can leave an imprint of my existence. I enjoy the process immensely. I re-create past triumphs, current disasters, as well as inspiring stories in my works.
