Biography and Information

Biography
Constance DeJong is a visual artist who works between sculpture and painting/drawing. Her predominate medium is reflective metal with light as a key factor. The protruding copper plates in DeJong’s light drawings capture and reflect ambient light to form geometric shapes. Each copper plate is etched by the artist to create a unique pattern. Since the composition is partially formed by light, it does not remain static unless the artwork is installed in an environment that contains a controlled light source. DeJong brings a feminine presence to contemporary minimalism and Light and Space movements.

Selected collections include the Albuquerque Museum, NM; Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY; Clay Center for Arts and Sciences, Charleston, WV; University of New Mexico Art Museum, Albuquerque, NM; Fisher-Landau Center, Long Island City, NY; Minnesota Gateway Landmark (in collaboration with Antoine Predock), Minneapolis, MN; Mulvane Art Museum, Washburn University, Topeka, KS; Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, NM; and the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, AZ.

DeJong has created work worth seeing and thinking about under any circumstances.
