David Poppie

(Dis)Order

Press Release

Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to announce, (Dis)Order, a solo exhibition of mesmerizing mixed media collages by David Poppie. Using everyday materials Poppie deconstructs and transforms them to create eye popping symphonies of color and pattern.

For this exhibition (Dis)Order, Poppie takes a fundamental tool, the pencil, and utilizes this object to create intricate patterns of layered leads.  Each piece is constructed of hundreds of pencils resulting in a tactile surface that is richly sensual in dimension, color and movement.  His meticulously handcrafted compositions, reveal a uniquely personal approach to color and form. Historically, much of his work reclaims expendable every day objects.  At the core of his work, Poppie is most concerned with blending Minimalist principals of order and structure with the disorder and chaos that is encompassed by the disposable culture of such every day objects.  As these items are re contextualized in seductive compositions, the viewer is required to reconsider their function and value.

David Poppie lives and works in Easthampton, MA. This is his first solo exhibition at Richard Levy Gallery. His work is found in prestigious collections worldwide.
