What is the Shape of this Problem

Press Release

Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present What is the shape of this problem?, a portfolio of new lithographs by world-renowned artist Louise Bourgeois. Single sentences excerpted from her journal accompany nine lithographs. As with Bourgeois’ past works, these prints articulate the same investigation of the self and its contradictions. New single prints by the artist will also be shown in the back gallery.

Louise Bourgeois (b. Paris, 1911) is an internationally acclaimed sculptor. Her most recent distinction was the Golden Lion lifetime achievement award bestowed this year at the Venice Biennial. Her traveling retrospective was recently presented at the Capc in Bordeaux, France, and the Serpentine Gallery, London.

Though primarily known as a sculptor and installation artist, Bourgeois has consistently worked on print editions since she first moved to New York in the late 1930’s. In 1994, The Museum of Modern Art organized her first major print retrospective.
