Press Release
Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present 11:11 Listening to Change, a two-person exhibition of photographs by Tricia Capello and paintings by Jenna Kuiper. In a time of extreme and rapid change both artists slow down to engage with themselves, the earth, and their surroundings. 11:11 Listening to Change is a meditation on subtle moments that one might typically overlook.
Mirrors, windows, and passageways are recurring motifs in Tricia Capello’s photographs. Using the dye sublimation process, she makes these prints by transferring an image onto an aluminum plate with a glossy, mirror-like surface. Capello is the first recipient of the John Chervinsky Emerging Photographer Scholarship, which includes a solo exhibition at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA. Capello has exhibited work at AREA Gallery in Boston, Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Tilt Shift Gallery in Scottsdale, and the Southeast Center for Photography in Greenville, SC. She lives and works in Newbury, MA.
Magic mushrooms, known in some cultures as niños santos or “holy children,”is based on the belief that mushrooms have an innate ability to respond and adapt to rapid change. With this in mind, Jenna Kuiper began painting mushrooms when her son was born in 2017. These tactile paintings focus on the physical characteristics of mushrooms and the belief in their healing properties. She works in various media, most often in the photo darkroom or with oil paint. Kuiper’s work has been included in the publications Lenscratch and THE Magazine. She has exhibited at Rayko Gallery in San Francisco, the Traywick Contemporary in Berkeley, CA, the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe, and the University of New Mexico Art Museum in Albuquerque. Kuiper lives and works in Albuquerque, NM.
