Press Release

Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present The Print Show, a group exhibition by contemporary artists who offer a sample of the broad range of printing techniques being used today. Ediitons by Polly Apfelbaum, John Baldessari, Math Bass, Martin Creed, Anish Kapoor, Julie Mehretu, Sean Scully, Thomas Ruff, Ed Ruscha, and Jonas Wood are included in this presentation. Screenprinting, aquatint, lithography, die-cut letterpress, woodblock monotypes, and archival pigment prints are all represented in The Print Show.

Select highlights include Polly Apfelbaum’s monoprint woodblock from the Atomic Mystic Portrait series. Each print from this series is made from a collection of 1,500 mosaic-like blocks which are inked and printed in different combinations on heavy handmade paper, making each print unique. John Baldessari’s Blueberry Soup (from the series Eight Soups), is a large multi-colored screenprint that references both Warhol and Matisse. Anish Kapoor’s aquatint, created at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture early in his career, exemplifies the use of negative space for which he is known. Ed Ruscha juxtaposes his iconic blocky text over an image of a looming mountain in his beautifully saturated lithograph, Sponge Puddle. Additional artists include Math Bass, Martin Creed, Julie Mehretu, Sean Scully, Thomas Ruff, and Jonas Wood.
