The Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Promisedland, a show of new work by Robert ParkeHarrison. Robert creates work that tells stories of loss, human struggle, and personal exploration within landscapes scarred by technology and over use. The mythic world he creates in his photos depicts futile attempts to save or rejuvenate nature from a destructive civilization of consumption and technology. The protagonist in this world patches holes in the sky, creates rain machines, chases storms to create electricity, and listens to the earth to learn its needs.

The images embody aspects of theater, sculpture, painting and photography. The eleven new large-scale works will be on display at the Richard Levy Gallery from March 12th through April 10th.

Robert ParkeHarrison received a M.F.A. in Photography from the University of New Mexico. He was the recipient of a Roswell Museum and Art Center Artist-In-Residence Grant, and will be featured in the 1999 Tokyo Biennale at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography.

The gallery will be showing drawings by Marc Baseman (Taos), the photographs of Karen Bucher (Las Cruces), paintings by Charles Dunbar (Albuquerque), paintings and objects by Ted Laredo (Albuquerque), and monotypes and digital prints by Suzanne Marshall (Sandia Park).

Ross Bleckner

new etchings
October 15 – November 20

The Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new etchings by New York artist Ross Bleckner. The exhibition’s 10 color prints, published by Paulson Press, explore the artist’s ongoing obsession with light and his interest in the scientific study of natural phenomena. Bleckner’s surfaces are packed with small organic shapes which resemble cells or abstract life-forms. As with his paintings, the artist used short bursts from an airbrush to create delicate shading and gently rounded forms. His references to science, through the use of repeated cell shapes and clustered molecules, are brought into a lush and organic unity with the notion that cells are the most fundamental units of life.

Ross Bleckner was born in New York in 1949 and attended New York University and the California Institute of Arts. A major survey of his paintings was hosted by the Solomon Guggenheim Museum in 1995.
