Press Release
Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Riverun, an exhibition of acrylic and ink studies by Andrew Millner. This series was inspired by the movement and light found in small streams in Snowmass, Colorado.
Riverun is a sequence of twelve works that investigate the experience of moving water and how what we see in nature defines us and shows us evidence of our existence. The completed works act as a diary of this experience. Millner writes “Each flicker of light describes the relation between the sun, the water, and us in an instant. Each small square in the paintings is a recording of that instant.“
Included in this exhibition is a large painting from the artist’s Flower series. While his Riverun records specific moments of time, the Flower series is concerned with the experience of painting. Andrew Millner chooses the familiarity of the flower to create a platform of freedom. The unique medium of enamel and glue creates a refreshingly slick surface and reveals the spontaneity of the medium itself.
Andrew Millner was born in St Louis, MO., studied in Florence, Italy, and received a BFA from the University of Michigan.
