Unspoken Word
July 9 – August 17

Press Release

Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Unspoken Word, a selection of recent works by Gregory Coates. The exhibition includes sixteen drawings on vellum and rag paper. In this body of work, the artist merges the spirit and speed of an urban environment with the transcendental calm found in New Mexico landscape.

Gregory Coates is an African-American artist known for working in the realm of social abstraction. This summer, he is the visiting artist at Working Classroom, a non-profit Albuquerque based organization committed to artistic diversity. The work in this exhibition was created during his stay in New Mexico. The artist is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship Grant, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant. Coates teaches at Cooper Union and at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
