Press Release
Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Wake Up, It’s in the Morning by emerging Brooklyn based artist Aurora Robson. The exhibition features recent paintings and sculptures.
Aurora Robson was born in Toronto, Canada and grew up in Hawaii. Although she has lived and worked in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for many years, it is the terrain of her childhood dreams that shapes her current work. From the chaotic fodder of recurrent childhood nightmares Robson mines her whimsical forms. Determined to invert their negativity, resurrected images are imbued with her affection and adoration until each terrifying dreamscape becomes one of buoyant fun.
Robson’s recycled trash sculptures and wildly colored misshapen blobs assert that what the human subconscious discards (i.e.: dreams and trash) can find new life with playful exploration and conscious release. The artist’s work is featured in Condé Naste’s new art magazine, Domino, which will debut in April and coincides with this exhibtion.
